Every Other Tuesday: Squeaky Wheel
Playing together for a little over a year, the members of this Las Cruces band claim to have “no illusions of bandure,” but are just “putting one note next to another and hoping to kick up some shoes in the meantime.” Every Other Tuesday is a showcase for local performers beginning promptly at 5:30 pm. KRWG Benefit: Steve Smith & Hard Road
Returning for their annual concert to benefit KRWG, Steve Smith and Hard Road evolved into a full working group as a result of the success and chemistry of the musicians who came together to work on Steve’s original live studio recording Hard Road, released in 2004. At the heart of Hard Road is the song-writing team of Steve Smith–one of this generation’s mandolin masters–and Minnesota songbird Chris Sanders. Showtime is 7:30pm with doors opening at 7pm. Founded in January 2010 in Las Cruces, Mariachi Sueños is an all-male musical group dedicated to celebrating the rich heritage of mariachi music. Friday & Saturday, July 29 & 30
Missoula Children’s Theatre presents “Pinocchio”
The classic fairy tale about a wooden marionette who longs to be a real boy is brought to colorful life as Missoula Children’s Theatre brings their annual production to Las Cruces, starring over 60 local children ranging in age from 5 to 18. Showtimes for Pinocchio are 7pm on Friday night and 2:30pm on Saturday. Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.RioGrandeTheatre.com.

On Exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery

Jeri Langlois
Images of the natural world, as seen through the inner eye of local artist Jeri Langlois, will be on display in the El Paso Electric Gallery, South of the Rio Grande Theatre lobby, for the month of July, 2011. Painting since the age of 13 and greatly influenced by the works of Georgia O’Keefe, Langlois works in several different mediums, including acrylic, oil and watercolor. The exhibit will run through the month of July 2011, beginning with an artist reception on July 1, from 5 to 7pm, as part of the Downtown Art Ramble.
Also included that evening will be the regular Literary Open Mic in the Rio Grande Theatre auditorium, from 5:30 to 7pm, followed by Comedy Improv by the Ad-Liberaces from 7 to 7:30pm. On permanent display in the Clute/Muggenburg Gallery are memorabilia and photos from the Rio Grande Theatre’s long and illustrious reign in downtown Las Cruces.
