Hondo Valley fire 60 percent contained

Incident report from the fire lines:

Smoke rises from the Donaldson Fire, which has scorched almost 100,000 acres in southeastern New Mexico.

Good progress continues as firefighters work to complete containment lines around the perimeter of the Donaldson Fire.

While parts of the fire are into patrol and mop-up, other parts of the interior (islands of vegetation) still have active flame. Fire personnel are working to contain the outside edges of the fire to prevent further movement. Additional acreage is due to fire growth on the west flank in addition to burnout operations along FR 443 (Hale Lake Road). The east and southeast sides of the fire perimeter have cooled and are showing minimal fire activity.

The Donaldson Fire is burning primarily on private property and also on Mesaclero-Apache Tribal lands, State Forestry, and Forest Service lands.

Fire personnel are closely monitoring and patrolling the fire by air and ground.
A public meeting was held yesterday at 4 PM in San Patricio to provide an update on the Donaldson Fire.
About 42 people were in attendance. Another meeting will be held today at 4 PM at the San Patricio (St. Jude’s) Community Center Hall.
