A group of young Juarenses between 18 and 25 years old showed up Monday to support the Argentine team at the Tenth Pan American Cup women’s volleyball tournament under way in Ciudad Juárez. The international competition featuring 12 teams is being played in the gymnasium at Colegio de Bachilleres.

The Juárez cheering squad beat a drum and played a trumpet as Argentina played Chile.

One of the group, Kevin Trevino, said the friends decided to organize and come to support the Argentina players when they noticed that in previous matches, people were booing and no one supported them.

“We came to support Argentina because we love them, we also have relatives there. There are six of us right now, but we are usually a group of 10 kids,” Trevino said of the fans.

To the beat of drums and a trumpet the group sang, “Dale, dale Argentina, dale dale, valedor.”

The young people said their message is to “come support your favorite team, whatever it is, but the important thing is to have fun and have a good time with friends.”

After the match and win, the Argentina fans handed the team a bouquet of flowers as a symbol of admiration.
