Juárez city police officers arrested two suspects Saturday in the death of a police officer just minutes after the officer was killed.

The suspects are identified as Luis Ángel García Pérez, 28, and a 17-year-old boy, according to a news release.

An auto theft report came into the emergency response center about 2 p.m., police said. Officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one reportedly stolen and found the suspects acting suspicious.  García and the juvenile then fled but police were able to stop them.

They had with them an AK-47 assault weapon and 32 rounds of ammunition, police said.

The investigation allegedly linked the pair to the murder moments earlier in the Santa Mónica neighborhood of the city.
