Rio Grande Digital

Christopher V. Lopez, editor of the El Paso Times, announced Tuesday that he will leave his position and end his newspaper career at the end of September, according to a report on the newspaper’s website.

Lopez, 50, said he made the decision on the basis of personal reflection and input from his family.

The article quotes Lopez as saying to the newsroom staff:

“I want you guys to know this is a very personal decision for me to hang up my newspaper career. I am intent on building a second career.”

El Paso Times President and Publisher Sergio H. Salinas had high praise for Lopez. The newspaper has begun a search for his replacement.
