Las Cruces police nab burglary suspects

Las Cruces Police Department

Police arrested two men and two women in connection with an early-morning burglary of a home in south Las Cruces.

Vanessa M. Montoya, 21, Jessica Olivas, 23, Richard Jimmy Thomas, 25, and 27-year-old Carlos Herrera are charged with one count each of residential burglary, larceny over $2,500 and conspiracy.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, Las Cruces Police were called to a burglary in progress at a home on the 100 block of Turquoise Avenue. A witness told the 911 call-taker that two men and two women left the area in a green Honda sedan.

Responding officers located and stopped a Honda on Sam Steele Way. The two men, later identified as Thomas and Herrera, allegedly jumped from the vehicle and led officers on a brief foot chase across Interstate 10 where they were caught and detained.

Las Cruces Police detectives learned that Montoya and Thomas allegedly gained access to the home they burglarized through a back door. All four suspects entered the residence and took various electronics, musical and household items, police said.

The suspected stolen items were located by police in the Honda.

Montoya, Olivas, Thomas and Herrera were being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $30,000 each.
