Las Cruces Police Department

Las Cruces police arrested a man who allegedly threatened two neighbors with a shotgun during the weekend.

Jose Miguel Mendez, 20, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, Las Cruces police were summoned to the 2100 block of Bex Court after witnesses reported seeing Mendez point a shotgun at two neighbors.

LCPD detectives learned that Mendez drove up to the apartment complex early Saturday evening and started yelling at one of his neighbors, police said. Witnesses told detectives that Mendez went into his apartment and came out carrying a shotgun. Mendez then allegedly threatened two neighbors with the shotgun.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Officers arrived and found Mendez inside his apartment. Officers also recovered the loaded shotgun from the residence.

Mendez was booked into the Doña Ana County jail with bond set at $10,000.
