Oñate High student stabbed during fight

Las Cruces police are investigating a Monday afternoon altercation at Oñate High School that left one student with a stab wound to his abdomen.

Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, about the time classes were being dismissed for the day, Las Cruces police were called to an on-campus altercation between at least two Oñate students.

Police say the altercation resulted in a student suffering at least one stab wound.

The victim initially was taken to the school’s office and later was flown to University Medical Center of El Paso. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

A student believed to have been involved in the confrontation was being questioned by police as were witnesses to the incident. No arrests had been made as of late Monday afternoon, police said.
