Mario A. Mendez

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Investigators have made an arrest in the killing of Jack L. Hadley, whose body was found Sept. 23 in his south Las Cruces home.

Investigators said Mario A. Mendez, 25, was booked into the Doña Ana County jail, charged with one count of capital murder, one count of first-degree kidnapping, aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, arson, tampering with evidence, larceny and disposing of stolen property.

Judge Richard Silva has ordered Mendez to be held without bond.

Hadley was found dead inside his home in the 5600 block of Camino Esdcondida in the afluent Las Alturas area when deputies went to the residence on a fire call. As part of the investigation, a nationwide search was conducted for a 1997 gold Ford Taurus, which was seen leaving the area around the time Hadley was murdered.  Mendez, the alleged driver of the car, is the only person charged in connection with Hadley’s death.
