New Mexico Comunidades en Accion y de Fe, or CAFe, a faith-based community organization, will gather 400 people and a dozen clergy leaders and multiple religious denominations to prepare for a historic “Faith & Families Summit” taking place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral in Las Cruces.

The summit is part of CAFe’s campaign launch, which addresses issues on education, foreclosures, jobs and health care.

Today, New Mexicans are facing an increase of foreclosures of nearly 50 percent in the last three months. Wages remain low, and many families are unable to meet their basic household needs, the organization said in a news release. Furthermore, college has become out of reach for many of our low and middle-income students including students of color.

“Our Faith & Families Summit is really an evening of bringing hope and better opportunities to our families and letting one another know that you are not alone,” said Las Cruces resident Maria Elena Johnson. “We want to bring awareness to our legislators that families are organizing for themselves and that we expect more from our public institutions and leaders to help repair our communities.”

If you are part of a congregation, please consider representing your faith community in our organization, or, if interested in becoming active in a faith-based community, we encourage you to attend. Contact Sarah Nolan at 575-520-1624 or email for more information.
