Gunmen shoot, injure Juárez activist

Norma Andrade, a Juárez teacher, social activist and co-founder of the group “Nuestras Hijas de Regreso a Casa” (Our Daughters Return Home) was shot by gunmen Friday as she was driving away from her home in her car, according to Juárez news media.

A teacher, Andrade reportedly had received threatening telephone calls at her school.

The shooting occurred about 2 p.m. near the intersection of Toronja Roja and Pacheco Parra streets in the colonia Infovanit Solidaridad. The gunmen reportedly fired five rounds, two of which struck the woman.

She suffered bullet wounds to her left hand and right shoulder. She remained hospitalized late Friday.

Andrade is the mother of Lilia Alejandra García Andrade, a woman murdered in February 2001.
